Safeguarding Good Scientific Practice

Good scientific practice is safeguarded through role models and a supportive research environment. Our goal is to prevent scientific misconduct effectively.

Academic Senate and Presidential Board of Leuphana University have formally adopted Ethical Guidelines with rules of good scientific practice and a procedure to handle cases of scientific misconduct. The Guidelines are available for download at the bottom of this page.

We introduce here the services available to the scientific community at Leuphana University: the two impartial counselors (Ombudsman), the Ethical Review Board and the Commission for the Investigation of Allegations of Scientific Misconduct.

The University has appointed two independent mediators (ombudspersons) to whom their members may turn with questions concerning good scientific practice and in cases of suspected scientific misconduct.

In cases of allegations of scientific misconduct, this independent commission conducts the necessary inquiries. The investigations may include hearings and recordings of evidence and the formal declaration that misconduct has or has not occurred. Reactions to a confirmed allegation may take the form of a settlement or arbitration, of recommendations to superiors or third parties, or of sanctions. Details of the procedure are described in the Leuphana Ethical Guidelines (see download area).
